Movie Casting: Most Vital / Least Appreciated Movie Task

Aspiring actors waiting for their chance to audition for a movie role

Movie casting directors, for example, hold thousands of auditions to cast for a franchise film. From A-listers to up-and-coming stars to minor roles - yet the casting director is really not seen or appreciated by moviegoers.

Casting is relatively new to the film industry, reaching its current position in the 1960's. Before that most actors were signed to individual studios which employed a stable of actors, both big stars and minor role players.

It should be noted that casting directors are not casting agents. Casting directors don't make commissions from actors, nor do they share in a film's profits - they are paid a flat fee for their work by the studio or film maker.

Casting is one of the unsung heroic endeavors of movies and TV shows. Great casting can make or break a film. Roles that are miscast could ruin what would otherwise be a terrific film or TV show.

Don't underestimate the role of the casting director, it's one of the vital roles of any successful film.
